In Focus: Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE Region

This year, the 2025 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the UNECE region (RFSD) will convene in Geneva on April 2-3 under the theme “Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive, Science- and Evidence-based Solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs in the ECE region, Leaving no one Behind.

As the UN’s key platform for policy debate, exchange of good practices, and peer learning on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the forum will bring together governments, international organizations, civil society, academia, youth, the private sector, and other stakeholders to identify and scale up actions to accelerate SDG progress, which remains off track.

The Regional Forum is aligned with the 2025 High-level Political Forum (HLPF), and will review SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The event will feature:

  • A High-level Policy Segment focusing on science- and evidence-based and inclusive policy solutions.
  • Peer learning round tables covering the SDGs under review.
  • A forward-looking Plenary under the theme “Towards an Inclusive, Prosperous and Sustainable Future,” integrating regional perspectives into global processes and summits.

What is the process?

Each year, the RFSD serves as the region’s official input to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the UN’s primary platform for global follow-up on the 2030 Agenda. The 2025 RFSD report will document regional progress, challenges, and policy recommendations, contributing to the HLPF’s overarching review of SDG progress worldwide.
