Side Event: “Fostering Resilient Partnerships for Inclusive Crisis Response”
Event description
Experts predict turbulent global conditions across geopolitical, environmental, societal, economic, and technological domains, driven by conflicts, climate change, large-scale migration, misinformation, and a lack of confidence in current institutions to address these challenges in the long term.
In the UNECE region, escalating geopolitical tensions, economic instability, and the ongoing war in Ukraine heighten risks, with seven countries categorized as medium to high risk.
Climate-induced disasters are anticipated to increase in severity, triggering cascading effects that lead to compounding crises and severe disruptions in food and energy supplies. These disruptions exacerbate vulnerabilities, especially for women, marginalized groups, and those in protracted crises. Women and girls continue to bear a disproportionate burden in times of crisis, facing heightened risks of violence and enduring persistent barriers to achieving gender equality.
Addressing such complex crises requires a multifaceted approach. Ensuring a coordinated, inclusive, and effective response is more urgent than ever, as reduced resources and shifting geopolitical dynamics further challenge effective humanitarian action. Strong multi-stakeholder partnerships are essential to safeguarding progress and ensuring no one is left behind. Strengthening an inclusive humanitarian system, aligned with global commitments and policies, is critical to enhancing crisis preparedness and response, particularly in light of the dramatic reduction of resources needed to support those most at risk.
In this context, the side event aims to support a resilient humanitarian system by aligning with global commitments, exploring innovative and scalable approaches, and identifying opportunities for collaboration to enhance coordinated crisis preparedness and response.
