Roza Otunbayeva has acknowledged the work of UN Women in the post-conflict Kyrgyzstan

In the course of a bilateral meeting with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peace building Support Judy Cheng-Hopkins H.E. President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva has expressed her gratitude to UN Women and other UN agencies for timely assistance in reconstruction of the Southern region of the country, which became flash point of interethnic conflicts June last year.
H.E. M-me Roza Otunbayeva has met Judy Cheng-Hopkins during her visit to New York to participate in the work of 66th session of General Assembly of the United Nations. According to Kabar agency, major topic of discussion with Ms Cheng-Hpokins became strengthening of interethnic concord in the post-conflict Southern regions of Kyrgyzstan.
M-me Otunbayeva has acknowledged help provided by UN Women, UN entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women, and other UN agencies in reconstruction of the post-conflict regions of Kyrgyzstan.
«As you are aware, a new entity, UN Women, was created as a result of UN system reforms a year ago. In close cooperation with it, and also UNICEF, UNPD and UNHCR, we are able to support peace-building efforts of women-peacemakers and youth leaders, who using various methods aim to restore trust between people of different ethnicities. Hundreds of young people acquired occupational skills, were involved in public works and reconstruction of housing facilities and infrastructure in post-conflict areas themselves”.
