The UN Women office in North Macedonia released the first Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) of the country, a document that encompasses quantitative and qualitative data analysis about the situation with gender equality in the country. The CGEP of North Macedonia shows that in general, the country has demonstrated increasing effort to implement legislation to promote gender equality and protect women's rights over the last decade. However, national action plans on gender equality, violence against women, and women, peace and security lack adequate allocated budget for their full implementation to achieve concrete impact in the lives and wellbeing of women.

The purpose of the CGEP is to serve as a baseline for regular monitoring of progress towards gender equality and women's empowerment and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was drafted as part of UN Women North Macedonia’s Gender Equality Facility (GEF) Project, funded by the Swedish government and implemented in partnership with North Macedonia’s Secretariat for European Affairs and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, and in cooperation with the State Statistical Office.
