Speak youth to power: UN Women Europe and Central Asia launches a blog for youth to speak out for gender equality and women’s rights in commemoration of the Beijing Declaration's 30th anniversary

Become a UN Women blogger! UN Women's Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia announces the launch of its youth blog in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most progressive blueprint ever for advancing gender equality and women's rights. Ahead of this significant milestone, our regional office is providing a platform for young voices to advocate for gender equality and women's rights across Europe and Central Asia.

Adopted in 1995 by 189 governments, the Beijing Declaration committed to taking strategic, bold action in 12 critical areas of concern: poverty, education and training, health, violence, armed conflict, economy, power and decision-making, institutional mechanisms, human rights, media, environment, and the girl child.

The Beijing+30 Europe and Central Asia youth blog, hosted on the UN Women Europe and Central Asia website, invites submissions from individuals aged 14 to 30 from the region (find out where we work here). This initiative aims to encourage youth to express their views, concerns, and expectations regarding gender equality and women’s rights, in alignment with the core principles of the Beijing Declaration.

Selected blog entries will be disseminated through UN Women’s social media channels, amplifying the voices of young advocates. Additionally, selected young people will be invited to participate in targeted initiatives, events, and activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration in the upcoming year.

Young advocates interested in contributing to the Beijing+30 Europe and Central Asia youth blog are encouraged to review the submission guidelines and send their entries to [ Click to reveal ] by the 13th of May 2024.

This call for application is the first in a series that will be issued in the upcoming year.

As part of the global efforts to review and assess progress on gender equality, the sixty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will convene at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from March 10 to 21, 2025. The focus will be on evaluating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and its contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Furthermore, the year 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the UN Security Council resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and a decade since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals. These milestones underscore the ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women on a global scale.
