** Announcement on Extension of Submission Date**

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, will be celebrating strong female characters to assist in addressing gender inequality, which is one of the biggest hurdles the world is still facing.

UN Women is seeking narratives to be part of a collection of tales aimed at young readers, to inspire girls to succeed in untraditional roles as portrayed by known and forgotten historical and fictional female figures, who represent an important part of their country. The collection will provide inspirational accomplishments of women and girls from the Europe and Central Asia region, and their positive contributions to their communities and society.

UN Women is inviting and encouraging a wide range of contributors - authors, primary school teachers, historians, journalists, young children, members from civil society organizations and youth groups, mothers and fathers - anyone with a story to tell of women and girls who have made a meaningful impact in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

In building on the first Call for Submissions, published on 25 July 2019, whilst the preference remains for submissions to be made in English, this amended Call is encouraging submissions in the following regional languages as well - Albanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and Turkish.

Submissions must be delivered to the UN Women Regional Office in Europe and Central Asia via [ Click to reveal ] no later than 30 September 2019 midnight Turkey local time.
