Event description

UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, in collaboration with the Government of Albania, is organizing the international conference “Charting the Future 30 Years after Beijing: Effective Institutional Mechanisms for the Advancement of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment” in Tirana, Albania.

The conference will provide a platform to discuss achievements, challenges and future priorities of institutional mechanisms for gender equality, as the national infrastructure for the advancement of women and the central policy coordination units inside governments. Participants will explore concrete steps and good practices to overcome challenges, enhance efficiency and build stronger partnerships in the current local, national, regional, and global contexts.

Specifically, the conference will address the following questions:

  • How can institutional mechanisms be strengthened to advance gender equality and democratic processes in terms of authority, political power, resources, and capacities?
  • How can institutional mechanisms build multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral partnerships and alliances to safeguard the progress made and advance gender policies?
  • What approaches and conditions contribute to the effectiveness of strategies in the region and globally?

Bringing together representatives of institutional mechanisms from Europe and Central Asia and beyond, the conference will inform the Beijing+30 Regional Review Meeting scheduled as well as the subsequent Global Review of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
