Conference on Women, Peace, and Security in the framework of the Central Asian Women Leaders Dialogue
Event description
This conference serves as a pivotal platform to address the implementation of the international agenda "Women, Peace, and Security" in Central Asia. Focusing on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and its subsequent resolutions, the event will explore four main components: the role of women in conflict prevention, their participation in peacebuilding, protection of women's rights during and after conflicts, and specific needs during repatriation and resettlement.
Civil activists, non-governmental organizations, and independent experts from Central Asian countries will share their experiences and recommendations regarding the WPS agenda's implementation in their respective nations. These insights will fuel discussions in the second part, involving representatives from parliaments, national women's mechanisms, gender experts, and government bodies from the region.
Conference Objectives:
- Strengthening women's participation in politics and decision-making at all levels.
- Integrating gender approaches into security and conflict prevention policies, and countering radicalization in the Central Asian region.
- Exploring preventive measures and solutions for conflict prevention, enhancing the role of women in building trust, reconciliation, peacekeeping, and diplomacy.
- Discussing legislative initiatives to promote the implementation of the UN agenda "Women, Peace, and Security."
The conference will be completed by an open session titled "Open Day for Peace," featuring discussions on current peace and security issues with the involvement of key figures from the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), OSCE, and the EU.
Expected Outcomes:
- Formulation of proposals for a Roadmap of Cooperation among Central Asian countries to implement the "Women, Peace, and Security" agenda.
- Agreement on mechanisms for the participation of women activists and representatives of civil society in regional platforms for conflict prevention and the promotion of peace and security.
