Event description

The side event, "Closing financial gaps on gender equality to accelerate SDG implementation," is being held as part of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2023. The event aims to bring together government officials, international organizations, and representatives of oversight bodies to discuss the cross-sectoral approach to achieving financing for gender equality. The discussion will focus on using public financial management systems to promote gender-related policy goals across sectors and the role of oversight bodies in increasing transparency and accountability. The event will raise awareness of the importance of public finance management systems and share best practices, experiences, and challenges of establishing a policy framework with clear gender equality objectives. The event will be structured as a panel discussion, followed by a Q&A session, where attendees can engage with the practitioners and explore the themes discussed. The expected outcomes of the event:

  • Raise awareness of public finance management for promoting gender equality and SDG implementation.
  • Share best practices, experiences, and challenges of establishing policy frameworks for gender equality objectives and allocations.
  • Promote a new tool for identifying progress on SDG Indicator 5.c.1.
  • Learn from the role of Supreme Audit Institutions in strengthening oversight and accountability for SDG 5 implementation.
  • Identify opportunities for regional cooperation in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment.
