Intensifying global efforts for the elimination of female genital mutilations: Report of the Secretary-General (2020)
Pursuant to UN General Assembly resolution 73/149 on intensifying global efforts for the elimination of female genital mutilation, the present report (A/75/279) provides information on the prevalence of the practice worldwide and its impact on women and girls, with reference to the most recent data and evidence.
It provides an analysis of progress made to date by Member States, United Nations entities, and other relevant stakeholders. It also includes an analysis of root causes, challenges and needs, and efforts to anticipate and address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the elimination of female genital mutilation.
The report draws conclusions and proposes recommendations for future action.
