Economic and Social Council
The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) discusses global economic, social and environmental challenges. It coordinates the related work of UN entities and regional commissions, as well as of its subsidiary bodies, particularly its functional commissions. Its annual, month-long substantive session in July is held in alternate years in New York and Geneva.
The Council considers gender equality issues under a dedicated agenda item on mainstreaming a gender perspective into all policies and programmes of the UN system. It reviews the work of the Commission on the Status of Women and takes action as necessary, and integrates gender equality considerations in other discussions.
