Women's Budget Groups from Edirne, Eskişehir, Gaziantep and Kocaeli provinces recently completed a capacity building training under the Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting Project in Turkey Project.

Held in Ankara from 24 – 26 April 2024, the training aimed to enhance the sustainability of Women's Budget Groups and boost the capacity of members in monitoring and auditing public expenditures.

Within the scope of the training, participants gained in-depth knowledge of gender-responsive planning concepts, implementation tools and best practices. Through group workshops, participants engaged in important discussions on the role of civil society organizations and local governments in ensuring gender equality and addressing sectoral priorities.

The training aimed to significantly contribute to strengthening the perspective of gender equality in Türkiye and developing more effective policies. Participants stated that with the knowledge and experience they gained from the training, they will contribute more effectively to women's empowerment and gender equality efforts.

What are Women's Budget Groups?

Women's Budget Groups were established in four selected provinces at the beginning of 2024 within the scope of the Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting in Turkey Project. The groups, formed by civil society organizations engaged in rights-based advocacy, women council members and city council representatives, aim to support sustainable planning and budgeting efforts at the local level.
