UN Women Executive Director visits Türkiye and Uzbekistan to further galvanize support for gender equality and women’s empowerment

UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous will be undertaking a visit to Türkiye and Uzbekistan for a week, where she will engage with government officials, women’s civil society organizations, and the United Nations system to strengthen support and galvanize further action for the advancement of the rights of women and girls in Türkiye and Uzbekistan.

In Uzbekistan, the Executive Director will participate in the Asian Women’s Forum, highlighting the strategic position of the country in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE) in the region. She will also reaffirm UN Women's commitment to women and girls in Uzbekistan and discuss strategic areas of intervention aimed at strengthening the in-country gender equality architecture.

In Türkiye, the Executive Director will engage in a series of strategic meetings with key stakeholders to discuss and coordinate efforts in advancing gender equality and women's empowerment. A significant focus of her visit will be on UN Women's support for women and girls affected by the earthquakes on February 6, 2023. Emphasizing the importance of gender-responsive humanitarian action, the Executive Director will highlight UN Women's collaboration with partners to ensure continuity in service provision, including healthcare and legal assistance, for women and girls during the recovery phase.
