Regional conference “Accelerating progress towards inclusive development through gender statistics” in Georgia
Event description
More and better gender data are crucial for evidence-based policy formulation, planning, evaluation, as well as monitoring progress made under commitments to advance gender equality, such as the Beijing Platform for Action and the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. UN Women and the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT) will convene a second edition of the regional conference on gender statistics “Accelerating progress towards inclusive development through gender statistics” on 25-26 July 2024 in Tbilisi, Georgia. This event marks the 105th anniversary of GEOSTAT and 25 years of collecting gender statistics in Georgia.
The two-day conference aims to enhance knowledge and share best practices on improving data and evidence for informed policy making on gender equality and women’s empowerment. It will focus on national strategies and practices for collecting and using gender data for better policy making, increasing data availability in emerging areas like violence against women, unpaid care work, and the gender pay gap, improving data disaggregation to ensure no one is left behind, and unlocking the power of gender data communications.
The event is intended for high-level statisticians and gender focal points from national statistical offices from Western Balkans, Turkiye, Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia countries, researchers, and policy makers from regional and international organizations. The conference is organized by UN Women and GEOSTAT under the regional programme "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" with the generous support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
