International Women’s Day 2025

ECARO - IWD2025 - Banner

Join us on 8 March 2025 to celebrate International Women’s Day under the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”

This year, on International Women’s Day, we move from commitment to action, as the theme calls for unlocking equal rights, power, and opportunities for all. Our vision is a feminist future where no one is left behind. At the heart of this vision is empowering the next generation – youth, particularly young women and adolescent girls - as drivers of lasting change.

As the world comes together to mark the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – adopted in 1995 at a time of change – this year serves as a pivotal year to celebrate achievements, acknowledge the persistent and emerging challenges, call for accountability, and, most importantly, recommit to accelerating the achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Yet, the world remains deeply unequal. International Women’s Day presents another chance to rise, demand action, and push for the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to create a more equal and better world for everyone. For ALL women and girls.

This International Women’s Day, join UN Women to march forward for women’s rights. We cannot afford a step back.

Tune in and turn up the activism!

Progress on women’s rights

In knowing and pushing forward for progress, there is hope.

  • For 89 per cent of governments, ending violence against women is a top priority today, and 193 countries have legal measures against it.
  • Data shows that countries with domestic violence laws have seen less cases of violence against women.
  • Most of the world has reached parity in education. By bridging the gender gap in accessing and shaping science and technology, we clear the remaining bottlenecks to equal opportunities and create technology that serves more people and the planet.
  • More States have strengthened care services and 32 per cent of countries globally now promote better pay and safe working conditions for care workers.
  • There are 112 countries with a national plan to engage women in peace and security processes – a significant increase from 19 countries in 2010.
