UN Women Executive Director nominates player for SDG5 Dream Team

The Global Goals World Cup, an all-women football tournament supported by the Government of Denmark, Eir Soccer, UNDP, UN Women, Save the Children, Women Deliver and the City of New York, will take place in New York on 19 September to raise awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals. UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is nominating Dina Smailova, a well-known producer and survivor of sexual violence from Kazakhstan, for the SDG5 Dream Team that will play in the tournament. 25 years ago, Dina Smailova survived a gang rape. Last year, she led a historic fight for justice when she won a legal battle for another survivor of gang rape. She initiated a national movement against sexual violence in Kazakhstan, which has helped many other survivors of sexual abuse.
