Women and Men in North Macedonia - a statistical portrait of trends in gender equality
The main purpose of this historical analysis is to provide an overview of the situation concerning gender equality in North Macedonia and to identify any clear trends or changes regarding the status of women in several areas: population and families, health, education, work and the labour market, social protection, power and decision making, and justice.
The primary source for the analysis is the Women and Men in North Macedonia, a signature publication of the State Statistical Office of North Macedonia (SSO) in the field of gender statistics. The first edition was published in 2000 and the most recent version in 2021, with a total of 12 editions over the years.
In addition to providing an overview of the situation concerning gender equality in the country based on twenty years’ data, the conclusions and recommendations are intended to support and guide the State Statistical Office of North Macedonia and other state institutions to improve coordination and standardization among the various data producers in the public administration system of the country.
This analysis is produced within the Gender Equality Facility (GEF) North Macedonia, implemented by UN Women in North Macedonia in partnership with the Secretariat for European Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, with the financial support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – Sida.
