UN Women chairs the UN Country Team Gender Thematic Group and provides a Gender Specialist to the Resident Coordinator’s office, which tries to trigger a gender responsive and relevant UN system that promotes policies, programmes and operations that protect human rights and promote equitable development for women, men, girls and boys.

The UN Gender Thematic Group ensures gender mainstreaming in United Nations Development Cooperation Strategy Turkey (UNDCS) planning and implementation, and supports UN agencies to promote coordinated UN Joint programming that advances gender equality and the empowerment of women. The Group develops policy and advocacy messages for joint UN Country Team advocacy initiatives and coordinates UN events such as International Women’s Day or 16 Days of Activism. It also coordinates with development partners on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

In this respect, through successful facilitation of the UN Women, gender equality and women’s empowerment became both a stand-alone pillar of the UNDCS 2016-2020 and also mainstreamed under six other outcomes of the strategy. To support the delivery and monitoring of these stand-alone outcomes UN Women will be leading the Results Group on Gender Equality.
