UN Women engagement in the Regional Refugee Response Plan
In light of the ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine, under the leadership of host governments, humanitarian partners have been supporting national responses through coordinated and inclusive interventions. These interventions are captured in the 2023 Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP), which outlines the multi-partner, multi-sector response strategy and financial requirements of 243 different partners supporting the host Governments of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania and Slovakia. The 2023 RRP emphasizes refugees’ socioeconomic inclusion to address the challenges faced by men and women refugees as their displacement becomes more protracted.
As part of the RRP, UN Women’s Europe and Central Asia Regional Office is actively engaged in humanitarian action throughout the region, leading gender in humanitarian coordination mechanisms, providing capacity-building to humanitarian actors on gender mainstreaming, and amplifying the voices of local women-led and women’s rights organizations. Additionally, UN Women regularly produces knowledge products in order to identify the specific needs and priorities of women and girls affected by humanitarian crises in the region. In doing so, UN Women advocates for women’s full agency in humanitarian responses, through equal and equitable engagement.
UN Women engagement in the RRP as Co-Chair of the Regional Gender Task Force
UN Women’s Europe and Central Asia Regional Office co-chairs, together with OXFAM, the Regional Gender Task Force (RGTF) established in March 2022. Under the umbrella of the inter-agency Regional Refugee Coordination Forum chaired by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the RGTF aims to mainstream and integrate gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across the Ukraine Refugee Response.
