#HearHerStory: Amplifying Voices to End Gender-Based Violence
This year, UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia together with influencers from the region is launching the #HearHerStory Regional Campaign as part of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
Date:
By combining the power of storytelling with the need to prevent femicide, #HearHerStory demonstrates the importance of collective efforts to address stereotypes and systemic issues.

#HearHerStory is an external initiative that unites influencers, bloggers, journalists, activists and social media users in the fight against gender-based violence. It goes beyond UN Women Regional Office platforms and aims to amplify the voices of women and girls who have experienced any type of violence, discrimination, or harassment, inspiring collective action to end gender-based violence and share their stories using the hashtag #HearHerStory.
The main idea of #HearHerStory is to make survivors to be heard, to dismantle stereotypes and victim-blaming, to break the silence around gender-based violence. Silence, reinforced by stigma and indifference in society, normalization of violence and condemnation of survivors, allows violence to spread, often leading to femicide.
Every story shared under #HearHerStory is a powerful call to action. These narratives reveal systemic gaps, from inadequate protection measures to insufficient support services, while inspiring others to recognize early signs of violence and intervene effectively. Moreover, the campaign's hashtag provides a tool to map and analyze GBV trends, enabling targeted interventions and policy development.
The #HearHerStory campaign can also serve as a tool for data collection. Analysis of posts with the hashtag will help to identify the types and geographic distribution of violence against women, which will allow for the development of more targeted interventions and policies.
How to Support #HearHerStory:
- Share a Story: Write about an experience of violence, discrimination, or harassment shared by a friend, sister, or acquaintance.

In parallel, UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia is conducting an advocacy campaign focused on raising awareness about gender-based violence, its signs, forms, and the stereotypes that fuel it, and extreme manifestations such as femicide. Combining the power of personal stories with educational content, #HearHerStory creates a culture of understanding, solidarity and action.
