New UN Women Executive Board Bureau 2023 elected

In elections taking place on 10 January, the UN Women Executive Board opened the year by electing its new Bureau for 2023. 

The rotational Presidency of the Executive Board during 2023 is held by the Eastern European Group and is represented by H.E. Mr. Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations.

Together with President Kyslytsya, the following Vice-Presidents representing the remaining regional groups were also elected: H.E. Ms. Leonor Zalabata Torres, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations (representing the Group of Latin American and Caribbean countries); H.E. Mr. Maurizio Massari, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations (representing the Western European and Others Group); H.E. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations (representing the Asia and the Pacific Group); as well as Ms. Nelly Banaken Elel, First Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cameroon to the United Nations (representing the African Group). 

The Executive Director of UN-Women, Ms. Sima Bahous, would like to thank Ambassador Muhith from Bangladesh for assuming the functions of President of the Executive Board in 2022, supported by the ambassadors of Argentina, Iceland, Sierra Leone and Ukraine as Vice Presidents. UN-Women is grateful for their commitment and service. 

The Executive Board governs the operational activities of UN Women. The Executive Board Bureau comprises of a President and four Vice-Presidents, each representing one of the five regional groups. The Bureau is elected by the Executive Board each year from among its members, with the presidency rotating among the regional groups on an annual basis.
