Advancing the Global Goals: Gender Equality as a Multiplier for Sustainable Development

Date:

The 2026 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) convenes under the theme "Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda." However, no action can be truly transformative unless it addresses the systemic inequalities that hold women and girls back.

This year, the HLPF conducts an in-depth review of five crucial Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 6 (Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships). Below, we break down the vital gender dimensions of each goal and explore why gender equality (SDG 5) is the ultimate catalyst for progress across the entire agenda.
