How to reduce gender inequalities in the response to COVID-19 by respecting Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs)

The COVID-19 outbreak is having a serious impact on people around the world and increasingly affecting Moldova, with the more long-term implications still unknown. Businesses (and through them) their employees, suppliers and customers are also affected, creating a difficult time for many organizations.

With the below, UN Women wishes to inform business leaders committed to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in Moldova about the interlinkages between COVID-19 and gender inequalities as well as to provide suggestions for possible responses aligned with the Women‘s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). UN Women calls on business leaders to take proactive measures to help lessen the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on their employees, suppliers, customers and communities. Aligned with the WEPs, it is advised that any response actions consider the gender-differentiated impacts of the outbreak.
