The Agency for Gender Equality of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) of the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, the OSCE Mission to BiH, the Office of the European Union in BiH and the UN Women BiH marked the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security by organizing an online conference today.

The 20th anniversary of UN Security Council resolution 1325 comes at a volatile time in the world. A UN Women and OSCE conference renews commitments and examines progress and challenges in implementing the landmark women, peace and security agenda.

Ketevan Chumbadze, Deputy Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA), is a member of the Georgian delegation to the Geneva International Discussions (GID) and is engaged in the security working group.

Women politicians, members of parliaments, diplomats and civil society representatives from across the Western Balkans together with UN Women, made a strong call for women’s equal participation in peace and security processes.

Bajana Ceveli is the Executive Director of the Association for Women’s Security and Peace (AWSP) in Albania. Over the past three years, the Association, with the support of UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality, helped draft a National Action Plan (NAP) on UN Security Council resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, which was adopted in September 2018. Ms. Ceveli spoke to UN Women about her personal motivation and why the National Action Plan is important for women.

With the support of UN Women, regular meetings continue between the participants of the Geneva International Discussions (GID) and civil society. These meetings aim at sharing information and mainstreaming women’s priorities and needs in the peace negotiations.

“The role of women and youth in conflict prevention in Central Asia,” event was organized by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) in cooperation with UN Women Multi-country Office in Central Asia and the Regional Office of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

More than 70 experts from across North America, Europe and Asia are meeting in the Lithuanian capital today for a conference organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), UN Women and the Lithuanian Government, to discuss the implementation of the landmark UN Security Council resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

The empowerment of women and the role of governments and national laws in helping move this issue forward took centre stage at a UN Women-hosted conference entitled UN Women Cross-regional Programme, `Women Connect across Conflicts: Building Accountability for Implementation of UN SCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889.` The two-day event took place at the Holiday Inn, Tbilisi, from 14-15 March.

UN Women/EU cross-regional programme ‘Women Connect Across Conflicts: Building Accountability for Implementation of UN SCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889’” facilitated today the meeting to present the recommendations developed by the interagency Working Group for the establishment of a suitable National Referral Mechanisms for Victims of gender-based violence, including sexual violence (SGBV) to the new Gender Equality Council.

A four-day training on “Monitoring of Women’s Human Rights Towards Efficient Implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security” was conducted in Sayakat Asia Hotel in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The workshop was organized within the framework of the UN Women Cross-regional programme “Women Connect Across Conflicts: Building Accountability for Implementation of UN SCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889” funded by the EU.

Opening ceremony of “The World Through My Eyes” photo exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Peace in Uzbekistan and the 20th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held at the Youth Creativity Palace of Tashkent.
