Building Foundations: Shaping the first regional action plan for Women, Peace and Security in Central Asia
Event description
The Regional Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security for Central Asia is to accelerate implementation of the Women, Peace and Security commitments and women’s equal participation across the four pillars of the Women, Peace and Security agenda: participation, prevention, protection and relief and recovery.
The regional action plan aims to create an environment where women and young women actively participate in maintaining peace and security as well as in addressing new and emerging security threats including water and climate security, emergency preparedness and humanitarian action, as well as prevention of violent extremism and counter-terrorism.
To ensure an inclusive and transparent development of the WPS regional action plan, the National WPS Focal Points of Central Asian Countries together with UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia are facilitating a series of online consultations to gather diverse perspectives from expert communities including women and youth organizations. These consultations will validate thematic priority areas and identify concrete immediate and mid-term actions for the regional action plan.
Online consultation:
We invite expert-level professionals from women-led organizations, civil society and women’s networks, academia and think tanks working across peace and security and related fields in Central Asia and neighboring countries to contribute to the development process of the framework that will drive transformational change for WPS across the region.
For this, an online workshop is organized to gather diverse perspectives and inputs to inform the development and implementation of the WPS regional action plan.
The objectives are to:
validate priority areas: refine transformative outcomes for each thematic area, ensuring they successfully advance the WPS agenda in Central Asia
identify immediate and mid-term priorities: gather specific, actionable set within each area that align with existing policies for sustainable implementation.
The online consultation will take place on September 12, 2025 from 2PM to 4PM Istanbul time / 5PM to 7PM Astana time / 6PM – 8PM Bishkek time
