Event description

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will host a high-level WPS international conference ‘From Gender Justice to Sustainable Peace: A 25-year Vision’, from 12 to 13 June 2025 in Sarajevo. Organized by the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the United Nations, the UN Secretary General’s Peacebuilding Fund and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the conference will gather key high-level stakeholders to strengthen international coordination and generate actionable recommendations.

The conference will contribute to key global peace and security processes in 2025, serving as a pivotal moment to assess the progress and gaps in implementing the WPS agenda over the past 25 years. Its outcomes will inform the UN Security Council Open Debate on WPS in October 2025, ensuring that regional perspectives and evidence-based recommendations shape the global discourse. The conference will provide substantive inputs to the ongoing Peacebuilding Architecture Review, co-facilitated by Slovenia in the UN Security Council and Egypt in the General Assembly. The conference will also align with the UN Secretary-General’s Common Pledge on women’s participation in peacebuilding, underscoring the need for strengthened commitments and concrete actions to advance gender equality in conflict prevention and resolution.
