High-level meeting “Five years to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Central Asia perspectives on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5”

Event description

In 2025, the global community embarks on the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), the twenty-fifth anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1325, and ten years since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). These crucial anniversaries demand to reflect on progress made and prioritize high-impact actions to ensure that commitments are fulfilled.
In this context, and in the lead-up to the sixty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) - scheduled to take place from 10 to 21 March 2025 - which will focus on reviewing and appraising the implementation of the BPfA, UN Women and the Government of Kazakhstan are convening the high-level meeting “Five years to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Central Asia perspectives on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5.”
The event will bring together high-level officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan and other key stakeholders, including regional organizations, civil society, development partners, and the private sector. The participants will have the opportunity to address the challenges and the priorities to advance an equal society in the next five years and layout mechanisms and instruments for securing funding and partnerships for gender equality.
The discussions will also inform preparations for the UNECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in April 2025 and the High-Level Political Forum in July 2025 that will assess the Sustainable Development Goal 5 “Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment,” and the 4th Financing for Development Summit in June – July 2025.
The high-level meeting will serve as a powerful reminder of progress made and a call for collective action – a pivotal moment to push forward, mobilize regional solidarity, and honor decades of hard-won achievements in gender equality and women’s rights.
