This brief provides a snapshot of key gender equality results to which UN Women Ukraine contributed in 2022.

A regional convening on Afghan women's human rights brought together 37 Afghan women and youth with 14 women experts from Central Asia and other regional leaders advocating for women’s rights and an inclusive Afghanistan. This summary report presents challenges for Afghan women, priorities and practical actions for Central Asia to take to advance women’s rights in Afghanistan, and “Asks” to representatives of the international community.

Gender is a key factor of social cohesion, peace, crisis and conflict. However, existing conflict analysis tools insufficiently acknowledge the gendered dimensions of violent conflict and crisis. The purpose of this tool is to complement the UNs Conducting a Conflict and Development Analysis toolkit and ensure that UN personnel examine the most critical gender dimensions of a conflict/crisis, at each step of the analysis as well as ensuring that crisis analysis translates into gender responsive peacebuilding.

This summary of discussions highlights the key issues raised during the roundtable on "Reinforcing Women, Peace and Security in ECA region - How COMPACT on WPS-Humanitarian Action can translate commitments into results?", focusing on how to channel commitments and resources to address WPS-HA gaps in Europe and Central Asia.

In the UN Decade for Action on Gender Equality, people around the world have pledged to move from rhetoric to action and to work together to drive lasting change, starting now. Through the 2021 Generation Equality Forum in Mexico and France, world leaders and partners committed to eliminating gender inequalities and to financing and implementing laws, policies, and programmes to meet priority actions and targets in a Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality. The aim is simple but profound: deliver irreversible, quantifiable results for women and girls in all their diversity.

The guidance proposes a methodology using a step-by-step guidelines to track planned and actual expenditures on GEWE in programming. It attempts to integrate United Nations Country Team (UNCT) Gender Equality Marker (GEM) processes within the UN INFO reporting system into this new methodology and is divided into three sections. The methodology allows the UN Agencies and development actors to demonstrate greater accountability for gender equality commitments and to track financing for GEWE more effective in programming.

UN Women Türkiye stands behind women's empowerment and gender equality in all aspects of life and has programmes that aim to advance gender equality, combat stereotypes and violence, unlock progress for women and girls in political, social and economic life. The publication is structured around the EU GAP III thematic areas and objectives and also includes a brief elaboration of the country context; key features of the country's political organization; relations with the EU and the social and economic context.

Since the beginning of the Russian military invasion in Ukraine, women’s groups and civil society organizations have been quick to react to the immediate priorities of their communities, but face many challenges as they attempt to provide support to large numbers of internally displaced people, host-communities and those directly affected by violence and insecurity. UN Women has conducted a rapid survey to help inform the decision-making of national and international stakeholders, and advocate for the support of civil society during the war.

Women in Central Asia call on politicians, leaders and partners to advance the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Central Asia. In raising their voices, they call for removal of barriers to their meaningful participation in peace processes, building solidarity and support for women across the subregion, and ensuring safety for women human rights defenders and peace activists, amongst others.

In September 2021, UN Women brought together more than 30 women peacebuilders, mediators and civil society organizations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to discuss challenges, build solidarity and put forward recommendations to advance the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the Central Asian subregion.

The research looks into how the implementation of good practices on community policing could contribute to prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls at the community level. This publication also provides recommendations to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and National Police of Ukraine on community policing and prevention violence against women and girls.

The findings of the assessment reveal inter alia a very low number of protection orders issued in the conflict-affected Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine. This points out to low awareness of survivors of domestic violence about this protection mechanism, as well as poor quality of the legal advice received in such cases. Additionally, the assessment results show that there is a high burden of proof imposed on survivors and that children witnesses of domestic violence are rarely recognized as victims of domestic violence.

The Country Gender Equality Profile will serve as an analytical and operational document, including an overview of opportunities to address the gaps identified through desk review and analysis. The report analyses the gender equality situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of governance, political participation, and decision-making; economic environment; healthcare and social protection; education; civic participation; and human security.
