This brief provides a snapshot of key gender equality results to which UN Women Ukraine contributed in 2022.

A new report published by the Regional Gender Task Force (RGTF), the leading advocacy and information and coordination platform on gender in humanitarian action in Europe and Central Asia, provides an in-depth analysis of existing evidence to increase understanding of gender and other social aspects and trends across the region.

The war in Ukraine has had devasting impact on women and girls worldwide, widening gender gaps, and increasing rates of food insecurity, malnutrition and energy poverty. The ensuing cost-of-living crisis has acutely threatened women’s livelihoods, health, and wellbeing and stymied progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The report summarizes UN Women’s key areas of progress and results during the first five months of the full-fledged war in Ukraine. The lives of women and men across Ukraine have been profoundly impacted by the crisis brought on by the escalation to a full-fledged war on 24 February 2022. UN Women acted swiftly to ensure that women and girls affected by the war are supported and that the humanitarian response to the crisis is gender sensitive.

This study contains research and evidence on needs and priorities of young women affected by war and is aimed at facilitating advocacy initiatives for young women to voice their concerns and demands. The study is developed by UN Women Ukraine together with NGO Internews Ukraine.

The purpose of this checklist is to provide humanitarian/refugee response actors in the Republic of Moldova with entry points/tips on how to ensure that the needs, priorities and capacities of women, girls, men and boys are considered in all aspects of humanitarian/refugee response.

Since the beginning of the Russian military invasion in Ukraine, women’s groups and civil society organizations have been quick to react to the immediate priorities of their communities, but face many challenges as they attempt to provide support to large numbers of internally displaced people, host-communities and those directly affected by violence and insecurity. UN Women has conducted a rapid survey to help inform the decision-making of national and international stakeholders, and advocate for the support of civil society during the war.

The “Looking beyond 2020: Advancing women, peace and security” consultations were organized by the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and the UN Women Georgia Country Office. As a result of the consultations, participants issued concrete and actionable recommendations to remove barriers to women’s meaningful participation in peace processes at the formal and informal levels.

This training manual is designed for actors involved in the prevention and countering of violent extremism (P/CVE) in Europe and Central Asia including state officials, members of non-governmental organizations, community activists, staff of UN agencies, international and regional organizations to help them understand violent extremism’s gender dimensions.
