The regional report “Social and institutional responses to femicide in Albania, Montenegro and Serbia” was developed by FemPlatz with the technical support of UN Women in the framework of the regional programme on ending violence against women in the Western Balkans and Türkiye “Implementing Norms, Changing Minds,” funded by the European Union. The report – the result of three years’ work to develop a framework for understanding the characteristics, patterns, and causes of femicide – is the first interdisciplinary research on the societal and institutional response to femicide in Albania, Montenegro and Serbia.

The Gender Responsive News Content Checklist provides media professionals with a set of guiding principles on news reporting that empower women and girls and avoid reinforcing existing inequalities and harmful gender norms. The Checklist is an easy-to-use tool that offers recommendations to consider for the news language, use of photography and interviews.

Violence against women and girls remains pervasive worldwide, affecting more than an estimated 1 in 3 women. This report provides detailed information on the #SheSaidNo Campaign launched by UN Women Türkiye, to raise public awareness and invite all actors to stand together against intimate partner violence, the reached numbers, the results of the quiz that was run on Instagram and the support the campaign has received from the partners.

On February 6th, 2023, Türkiye was struck by two significant earthquakes that resulted in widespread devastation in the Southeast region of the country, affecting 11 provinces with a population of around 14 million (16.4% of the total population of the country). This brief explains the impact of the earthquake, needs and priorities of women and girls and UN Women's response efforts on the ground.

This publication showcases the results of the quiz on sexual violence, which was taken by citizens in five BiH cities and online during the 16 Days of Activism campaign in 2022. The quiz featured a selection of questions the citizens answered in order to test their knowledge about sexual violence and harassment, prevalence of violence, key elements of consent, and related legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The guidance provides a research-based analysis of perpetrator programmes in the region or the potential to develop them, within the framework of minimum standards for practice outlined by the European Network for the Work with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence, and the Istanbul Convention. As the first analysis of this kind, the document outlines recommendations for further development of survivor safety-oriented perpetrator programmes, to end violence against women in the region.

The book on Art and Creativity for Gender Equality which was created by UN Women Türkiye Communications Team presents some of the most characteristic communication activities performed by UN Women Türkiye between 2019 and 2022.

In the UN Decade for Action on Gender Equality, people around the world have pledged to move from rhetoric to action and to work together to drive lasting change, starting now. Through the 2021 Generation Equality Forum in Mexico and France, world leaders and partners committed to eliminating gender inequalities and to financing and implementing laws, policies, and programmes to meet priority actions and targets in a Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality. The aim is simple but profound: deliver irreversible, quantifiable results for women and girls in all their diversity.

The war in Ukraine has had devasting impact on women and girls worldwide, widening gender gaps, and increasing rates of food insecurity, malnutrition and energy poverty. As healthcare providers are an essential, life-saving link between women experiencing violence and women’s specialist services, the regional assessment aims to analyze cooperation between women’s civil society organizations and healthcare providers in Western Balkans countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia – and Turkey, including the challenges arising from the pandemic.

The Levers of Change: Gender Equality Attitudes Study 2022, is the latest iteration of a bi-annual global study that tracks attitudes towards gender. The study, developed under the leadership of UN Women in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, Kantar, Procter & Gamble and Unilever, examines perceptions across a multitude of areas including leadership and political participation, education, healthcare, the workplace, media representation, marriage and family life, safety and violence, and control over personal decisions.

Violence against women and domestic violence are widespread phenomena that have a tremendous impact on all aspects of society. Perpetrator programmes, as outlined in Article 16 of the Istanbul Convention, are one of the key elements in preventing violence against women and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of survivors. In this regard, this research focuses on the mapping and analysis of existing perpetrator programmes in the Western Balkans, the status of the implementation of Article 16 of the Istanbul Convention and the key recommendations for improvements at the regional and country level, within the scope of Article 16.

This evaluation report documents the results of the "Changing the attitudes and behavior of police officers through the implementation of norms for the protection of victims of violence in the Tuzla Canton" project in relation to its specific objectives and expected results. It further identifies good practices and lessons learned to inform designing of similar interventions in the future.
