Active in Kazakhstan since 1999, UN Women country team works in partnership with the Government, civil society and other institutions to ensure equality of rights and opportunities for women and girls across the country.

Women in Central Asia call on politicians, leaders and partners to advance the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Central Asia. In raising their voices, they call for removal of barriers to their meaningful participation in peace processes, building solidarity and support for women across the subregion, and ensuring safety for women human rights defenders and peace activists, amongst others.

In September 2021, UN Women brought together more than 30 women peacebuilders, mediators and civil society organizations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to discuss challenges, build solidarity and put forward recommendations to advance the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the Central Asian subregion.

A gender analysis of 477 government socio-economic policy responses adopted in 18 countries and territories in Europe and Central Asia over the first year of COVID-19, reveals that only 7 per cent specifically reference women and can be classified as gender-sensitive. This calls for governments to prioritize gender-responsive policy responses in the context of COVID-19 and emergencies. Measures recorded were in relation to social protection, labour market, and economic, fiscal and business stimulus.

The region's first 'Women’s Entrepreneurship Expo' was a comprehensive virtual event held between 27-29 April 2021. This report presents how interactive ideas generation sessions and networking expanded the potential of women entrepreneurs. It offers entrepreneurial learning and resources on topics related to: business blueprint modelling; branding and marketing; entering demand-supply and value chains; rethinking digital sales and e-commerce; financial goals and resilience building; and developing and pitching winnable business plans.

In response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the relatively limited data available, the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, through the Making Every Woman and Girl Count global programme, developed a rapid survey assessment tool to assess the gendered impacts of COVID-19 on the main challenges faced by on women and men lives and livelihoods.

In May 2020, UN Women initiated online consultations with gender equality mechanisms from 14 countries in the Western Balkans and Turkey, Eastern Partnership and Central Asia sub-regions to discuss challenges and priorities for the gender dimensions of the short- and long-term COVID-19 response.

The publication presents the findings of the Rapid Gender Assessment for the COVID-19 situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted jointly by UN Women and UNFPA Kazakhstan in April and May 2020.

The study determines the economic impact of institutionalization of pre-school children and dependent family members' care services on the economy as a whole. It should also investigate and assess the need for preschool care and development services, determining what public expenditures are needed to meet this demand and provide opportunities for women to work.

The Regional Advocacy Paper provides key policy recommendations that can help countries overcome the existing development bottlenecks and boost the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, leaving no one behind. It is intended to contribute to the development dialogue in the region on the need for integrated and coherent policies based on the principles of national ownership, whole-of-government and whole-ofsociety approaches, and will help accelerate SDG implementation in all countries of the region.

This policy brief highlights the need for publicly provided social care services for children, the sick, the elderly and persons with disabilities to reduce the burden of unpaid care work on women and advance women’s economic empowerment. It details the substantial advantages and returns countries stand to gain in the short and long run from such investments.

The handbook is designed to support governments, multilateral and bilateral organizations, civil society and others in costing gender equality outcomes, which responds to the growing global demand for concrete methodologies to estimate the financing gaps and requirements for achieving gender equality commitments.

This report on the status of domestic workers in Kazakhstan examines the policies and procedures of Kazakh domestic worker employment agencies and the gender mainstreaming and migration issues domestic workers face. Conducted as part of the second phase of the Regional Migration Programme implemented by the IOM, UN Women and the World Bank, the study recommends ways to improve the legislation and law enforcement practices governing Kazakhstan’s private employment agencies.

This conference report is a result of the Regional Consultations for Central Asia and South Caucasus on the Post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and presents summary of challenges and provides valuable recommendations.

Intended for gender experts, governments and the public, Pathway to Gender Equality uses practical materials and identifies strategic entry points and specific ways in which the MDGs, CEDAW and BPfa correspond and support each other. After a preliminary mapping of gender equlality issues raised by each MDG, the book provides the corresponding obligations and commitments under CEDAW and BPfA, and outlines how the MDGs can be used to implement them.

This gender-responsive budgeting knowledge package is the first comprehensive educational package in Russian to combine the theories and practices of gender-responsive budgeting exercises, particularly those conducted in Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries from 2001 to 2013. Developed with UN Women support by the Gender-responsive Budgeting Regional Centre of Excellence for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the package includes a Resource Manual, Trainer Resource Pack, and Practice Book.
