This brief provides a snapshot of key gender equality results to which UN Women Ukraine contributed in 2022.

A regional convening on Afghan women's human rights brought together 37 Afghan women and youth with 14 women experts from Central Asia and other regional leaders advocating for women’s rights and an inclusive Afghanistan. This summary report presents challenges for Afghan women, priorities and practical actions for Central Asia to take to advance women’s rights in Afghanistan, and “Asks” to representatives of the international community.

With the aim of galvanizing global action against this all-too-pervasive crime, UNODC and UN Women have joined forces to produce this research paper on the global estimates of gender-related killings of women and girls in the private sphere in 2021.

The policy analysis includes gender and human rights analysis of normative and policy framework on decentralization, analysis of existing practices of provision of services in Amalgamated Territorial Communities (ATCs) for women and men, especially those in vulnerable situation, including in the context of COVID-19 outbreak, and participation of women in local development, from the perspective of GE and HRBA.

The Manual for Facilitators: Gender Sensitive Refugee Response Programmes - Capacity Development Training for Civil Society Organizations aims to ensure continuous capacity development for a more gender-responsive refugee response, focused on front-line service providers, civil society organizations that work with/for the refugee and host communities, including those involved in programme design and implementation. 

UN Women Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (ECA RO) supported partners in the region by convening a series of subregional consultations to examine achievements, challenges, and gaps as well as actions to aintegrate gender equality into climate change policies both at the local and regional level. For this purpose, UN Women ECA RO partnered with the Government of Turkemnistan in organizing virtual sub-regional consultations for Central Asia and with the Government of Serbia, for the subregional consultations for the Western Balkan countries and Turkey in February 2022.

During the Third Regional Forum on Ending Violence against Women in the Western Balkans and Turkey, representatives from governments, regional institutions and civil society from the Western Balkans and Turkey adopted a road map to advance work with perpetrators, leverage data through establishing femicide watches, promote social norms that favour equality, and make necessary amendments in laws, policies and budgets to provide fully funded, sustainable and high-quality services for survivors of violence.

The Compendium covers the work of the UN Women Bosnia and Herzegovina over the past five years in working with the media, assessing their needs and capacities, and strengthening their role in preventing violence against women and girls and domestic violence.

The report "OSH Profile and decent work in Kosovo: Gender Equality Perspective”, is designed to match the OSH profile key components and serves to the purpose of highlighting gender mainstreaming issues in occupational safety and health in general. This report assesses each OSH aspect, it key references on what types of questions to be asked to understand gender mainstreaming requirements in the safety, health, education, management and enforcement aspects.

This publication summarizes the activities and results of the UN Women Bosnia and Herzegovina 16 Days of Activism campaign in 2020, "Turn off violence against women and girls", which had the aim to increase awareness regarding the impact and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on women and girls victims of violence.

The “Regional Guidelines for Risk Assessment and Risk Management to Prevent the Recurrence and Escalation of Violence Against Women” are designed to inform and support relevant authorities tasked with dealing with cases of violence against women, including institutions in the chain of protection of women from violence, when creating measures and policies to prevent violence against women and its escalation. The guidelines were developed by the Center of Women’s Rights, based in Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the UN Women’s regional programme on ending violence against women in the Western Balkans and Turkey "Implementing Norms, Changing Minds," funded by the European Union.

This publication intends to support policy makers, employers, and activists by sharing UN Women’s work on this topic and offering new guidance on policy and practice on sexual harassment.

The guidelines offer practical guidance to the national governments and service providers in the Western Balkans and Turkey on how to better respond to the needs of women and girls victims of violence throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and once lockdown measures are lifted.

This report tells UN Women’s story over the period 2019–2020. This short guidance note, prepared by the UN Regional Issue-Based Coalition on Gender, provides key messages and recommendations on gender and COVID-19 to help guide and inform country-level response efforts and ensure that integration of gender remains a priority focus of interventions across the Europe and Central Asia region.

Across every sphere, from health to the economy, security to social protection, the impacts of COVID-19 are exacerbated for women and girls simply by virtue of their sex. This policy brief by the UN Secretary-General explores how women and girls’ lives are changing in the face of COVID-19, and outlines suggested priority measures to accompany both the immediate response and longer-term recovery efforts.

The evaluation looks into the gender responsiveness and impact of policy design, implementation and monitoring and reviews alignment with the national policies promoting gender equality. The findings of the evaluation lessons will inform the development of the next post-2020 Roma strategy and action plan in accordance with the European and international standards, as well as the relevant national legal and policy frameworks, particularly those on human rights and gender equality.

Marking the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action, as well as the first time that progress on the implementation of the Platform is reviewed in light of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this report takes an integrated approach to reporting on progress, gaps, and challenges related to the advancement of gender equality and women’s rights.

This study investigates the need for new regulations on permanent alimony, the obstacles to the implementation of permanent alimony, and the issue of violence against women in cases with alimony claims. The report is based on the examination of 140 alimony and divorce case files in 11 provinces in Turkey. Discussions on alimony, legislation and doctrine as well as research and data related to those topics were also included in the report to provide a holistic analysis.

IASC Gender Handbook for Humanitarian Action sets out the rationale for integrating gender equality into humanitarian action and provides practical guidance for the implementation across sectors. The handbook is also intended as a resource for gender specialists to support their work in integrating gender equality into humanitarian settings. The handbook is translated into Turkish by UN Women Turkey within the framework of the project ""Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women and Girls and Host Communities"" funded by the European Union and the Government of Japan.
