An analysis of the data from the 2017 UN Mainstreaming, Acceleration, and Policy Support (MAPS) mission in the Republic of Moldova demonstrates the influence gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) has to accelerate development progress towards not only gender-specific targets and goals, but towards targets and goals beyond Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, Gender Equality and Empowerment of All Women and Girls.
This study examines the situation of Romani women and girls in Moldova. Its findings indicate that the marginalized position of Romani women and girls in Moldova is determined by the interaction of gender discrimination, racism, class and discrimination and exclusion at various levels and in multiple situations, and a legacy of past exclusion.
Vulnerability Study, Taxonomy and possible decentralization policy implications for vulnerable groups in Moldova
This paper is an account of vulnerable groups in Moldova and an expert assessment of decentralization's consequences for them. It classifies Moldova's vulnerable groups and presents national and international evidence to document their situation and problems. It discusses why each group is vulnerable and underlying causes for their vulnerability. The paper analyzes current policies and their negative effects on the vulnerable, provides an account of good practices and makes detailed recommendations going forward.
