Assessing the lights and shadows of COVID-19: A gender analysis of pandemic-related impacts on women and girls in Europe and Central Asia
This gender analysis identifies the most significant impacts of COVID-19 on gender equality in the region in order to inform gender-sensitive national response, recovery, planning and investment. It examines the impacts in five areas that were identified as priorities for ECA during the 2019 Regional Review Meeting on implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (Beijing+25). The report presents an analysis of the initial and differing impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on women and men in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, North Macedonia and Serbia . The report outlines government measures and subsequent budget rebalancing and reveals anlysis on the initial gender impact with focus on country specific selected sectors.

The “Looking beyond 2020: Advancing women, peace and security” consultations were organized by the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and the UN Women Georgia Country Office. As a result of the consultations, participants issued concrete and actionable recommendations to remove barriers to women’s meaningful participation in peace processes at the formal and informal levels.
