Moving towards the Gender Equality Index, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022 presents data and index scores for two full domains, Knowledge and Power and the partial data and index sources for Work and Health as set by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) methodology on analysing the state of gender equality in a society. The report will support the establishment of an evidence base for future effots in achievieng gender equality.

The Levers of Change: Gender Equality Attitudes Study 2022, is the latest iteration of a bi-annual global study that tracks attitudes towards gender. The study, developed under the leadership of UN Women in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, Kantar, Procter & Gamble and Unilever, examines perceptions across a multitude of areas including leadership and political participation, education, healthcare, the workplace, media representation, marriage and family life, safety and violence, and control over personal decisions.

A gender analysis of 477 government socio-economic policy responses adopted in 18 countries and territories in Europe and Central Asia over the first year of COVID-19, reveals that only 7 per cent specifically reference women and can be classified as gender-sensitive. This calls for governments to prioritize gender-responsive policy responses in the context of COVID-19 and emergencies. Measures recorded were in relation to social protection, labour market, and economic, fiscal and business stimulus.

This report showcases the findings of a research on attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of primary and secondary school students, university students and teachers towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It provides insight into young men and women's preferences and choices in terms of education and careers, and based on those, it proposes interventions to nudge girls into STEM.

As a part of the regional effort, UN Women conducted a Rapid Gender Assessment (RGA) survey in Bosnia and Herzegovina seeking to identify the impacts of COVID-19 on the population and specific implications of the impact on gender inequalities. The assessment concentrates on the gender aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on how women’s and men’s lives have been impacted and changed in the face of COVID-19.

In response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the relatively limited data available, the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, through the Making Every Woman and Girl Count global programme, developed a rapid survey assessment tool to assess the gendered impacts of COVID-19 on the main challenges faced by on women and men lives and livelihoods.

In May 2020, UN Women initiated online consultations with gender equality mechanisms from 14 countries in the Western Balkans and Turkey, Eastern Partnership and Central Asia sub-regions to discuss challenges and priorities for the gender dimensions of the short- and long-term COVID-19 response.
