Co-led and developed by UN Women on behalf of the Regional Gender Taskforce, this gender brief analyzes the access to employment and livelihoods of refugees from Ukraine and its gendered impacts. This is done through a review of key barriers (women) refugees face to building livelihoods, an identification of good practices adopted thus far, and 38 recommendations for how actors in the humanitarian response can address these barriers moving forward.

The Baseline Study on Care Economy in Bosnia and Herzegovina aims to build understanding of the disproportionate distribution of responsibility for care as a source of inequality, focusing on gender, and help initiate positive change that will lead to the more equitable distribution of the provision of care in households and communities and thereby contribute towards women’s empowerment.

A decade after the first study on women’s entrepreneurship in Serbia, UN Women in Serbia supported the development of another study aimed to review the state of women’s entrepreneurship in a bid to identify changes, achievements, challenges and the potential of women’s entrepreneurship that future policies should focus on.

On February 6th, 2023, Türkiye was struck by two significant earthquakes that resulted in widespread devastation in the Southeast region of the country, affecting 11 provinces with a population of around 14 million (16.4% of the total population of the country). Moving towards the Gender Equality Index, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022 presents data and index scores for two full domains, Knowledge and Power and the partial data and index sources for Work and Health as set by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) methodology on analysing the state of gender equality in a society. The report will support the establishment of an evidence base for future effots in achievieng gender equality.

As healthcare providers are an essential, life-saving link between women experiencing violence and women’s specialist services, the regional assessment aims to analyze cooperation between women’s civil society organizations and healthcare providers in Western Balkans countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia – and Turkey, including the challenges arising from the pandemic.

The "Feasibility Study on Women-Owned Businesses Access to Finance in Bosnia and Herzegovina" sheds light on the key denominators and challenges when it comes to women's access to financing schemes and gaps in donor support/market failures. It also recommends different approaches to improving acess to finances for women entrepreneurs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Levers of Change: Gender Equality Attitudes Study 2022, is the latest iteration of a bi-annual global study that tracks attitudes towards gender. The study, developed under the leadership of UN Women in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, Kantar, Procter & Gamble and Unilever, examines perceptions across a multitude of areas including leadership and political participation, education, healthcare, the workplace, media representation, marriage and family life, safety and violence, and control over personal decisions.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender responsive budgeting in the ten Municipalities of Aerodrom, Bitola, Gjorche Petrov, Gostivar, Kochani, Kriva Palanka, Shtip, Strumica, Sveti Nikole, and Veles provide data and evidence on the impact of COVID-19 on gender-responsive programmes.

The Manual for Facilitators: Gender Sensitive Refugee Response Programmes - Capacity Development Training for Civil Society Organizations aims to ensure continuous capacity development for a more gender-responsive refugee response, focused on front-line service providers, civil society organizations that work with/for the refugee and host communities, including those involved in programme design and implementation. 

The brief on the "Strengthening the Socio-Economic Stabilization of Refugee and Host Community Women and Girls through Women’s Leadership in Gaziantep, Istanbul and Izmir (Turkey)" project created under the Regional Refugee Resilience Plan (3RP) provides information about the project's details.

The handbook on ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment in Armenia and their Greater Integration into Markets and the Digital Economy: Challenges and Opportunities amid COVID-19’ examines the importance of the digital economy, women’s economic empowerment, and emergent challenges and opportunities amid the COVID-19 crisis. It offers approaches to empowering women and girls in their education, career and entrepreneurial choices, and explores the relationship between the digital economy/ICT sector and women’s economic empowerment in Armenia.

UN Women’s Country Gender Equality Brief (CGEB) provides a snapshot of the status of gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Republic of Moldova, particularly as measured against the gender-related indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Framed under the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, the CGEB also summarises if and how women from underrepresented groups are affected by a number of different discriminations.

The region's first 'Women’s Entrepreneurship Expo' was a comprehensive virtual event held between 27-29 April 2021. This report presents how interactive ideas generation sessions and networking expanded the potential of women entrepreneurs. It offers entrepreneurial learning and resources on topics related to: business blueprint modelling; branding and marketing; entering demand-supply and value chains; rethinking digital sales and e-commerce; financial goals and resilience building; and developing and pitching winnable business plans.

The report offers a concise, data-driven look at the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and issues a clarion call for stepping up progress to realize the promises of Beijing. It covers countries from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe region and it is based on available data and information in the regional and global databases.

This rapid gender assessment report aims to understand the different dimensions of how the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures adopted to tackle it have affected the lives of women and men in Serbia. It also advocates for gender responsiveness in the relief and recovery measures that will be undertaken to alleviate the consequences of the pandemic.

Focus on Gender Bosnia and Herzegovina is a series of publications addressing specific areas of work on gender equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is designed to give more insights on specific gender equality issues and proposed actions to policy makers, experts, governmental institutions, civil society organizations and representatives of international community.

The Rapid Gender Assessment examines how the COVID-19 crisis affects the socio-economic situation and livelihood of women and men in North Macedonia. It provides insights to the situation at a specific moment in time between the outbreak of COVID-19 and field research conducted between 8 and 20 May. It provides recommendations for policymakers to integrate gender perspectives in policies and measures during the response and recovery phases.

The mapping analysis examines how the COVID-19 crisis affects the socio-economic situation and wellbeing of women and men at the local level and identifies immediate interventions by the municipalities to respond to the crisis. Focusing mainly on the perceptions of local gender equality mechanisms, it provides recommendations for supporting the municipalities in identifying gender specific measures and prioritizing allocation of resources in the post-recovery period.
