On February 6th, 2023, Türkiye was struck by two significant earthquakes that resulted in widespread devastation in the Southeast region of the country, affecting 11 provinces with a population of around 14 million (16.4% of the total population of the country). This brief explains the impact of the earthquake, needs and priorities of women and girls and UN Women's response efforts on the ground.

Under the "Women in Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina" project, UN Women produced a Guide intended to inform political parties in considering different strategies for strengthening women's political participation and their political influence in political processes by reinforcing parties’ internal structures. The Guide is intended for all political parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina, regardless of whether they have dealt with gender equality issues on a systemic level before or not.

The publication provides the most recent data about women's political participation, practical guideline about gender equality, gender responsive budgeting, gender responsive governance and good practices on how to strengthen women's participation in political life.

This toolkit offers ways on how to integrate gender equality principles into legislation and policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and contains guidelines, training curriculum, practical and easily applicable examples and excercises, produced by various stakeholders working on capacity building and improving the role of women in public and political life in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Health emergencies such as COVID-19, and the response to them, can exacerbate gender inequality and derail hard-won progress not only on SDG 3 but on all the SDGs. This paper draws insights from emerging data and shines a spotlight on the long-term impact of the crisis on the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The paper concludes by outlining policy priorities drawn from the evidence presented.

This brief shines a light on the critical role of women’s leadership in responding to COVID-19 and preparing for a more equitable recovery. The Rapid Gender Assessment examines how the COVID-19 crisis affects the socio-economic situation and livelihood of women and men in North Macedonia. It provides insights to the situation at a specific moment in time between the outbreak of COVID-19 and field research conducted between 8 and 20 May. It provides recommendations for policymakers to integrate gender perspectives in policies and measures during the response and recovery phases.

The mapping analysis examines how the COVID-19 crisis affects the socio-economic situation and wellbeing of women and men at the local level and identifies immediate interventions by the municipalities to respond to the crisis. Focusing mainly on the perceptions of local gender equality mechanisms, it provides recommendations for supporting the municipalities in identifying gender specific measures and prioritizing allocation of resources in the post-recovery period.

This rapid assessment examines how the impacts of COVID-19 are threatening women’s ability to access justice. The assessment reflects challenges faced by women and girls of diverse backgrounds and socio-economic groups, including those experiencing overlapping disadvantages and those facing amplified challenges in humanitarian settings. Cross-regional and local experiences are highlighted, and quantitative data is utilized where available.

The study elaborates why mainstreaming gender and application of gender-responsive budgeting to the sector of agriculture and rural development is important for recognising the different needs of women and men.
