The brochure “The Rights of Roma Women in Ukraine: Overview on the Situation of Roma Women in Ukraine in the Context of the Implementation of CEDAW” provides an assessment of the state of human rights of Roma women in Ukraine and the analysis of how the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) addresses their rights.

It was prepared in collaboration with the International Charitable Organization Roma Women Fund Chiricli, which engaged 300 Roma women in collection of the first-hand information about their experiences, problems and needs. The research provides quantitative and qualitative data on the important aspects of the human rights o Roma women, their access to civil registration documents, education, employment, social services, as well as political participation.

The publication also includes the results of the joint analysis by the UN Women Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine and Chiricli of the progress with the implementation of the Strategy on the Protection and Integration of the Roma National Minority into Ukrainian Society up to 2020 and its National Action Plan from a gender equality perspective.

CEDAW is relevant to Roma women's issues in Ukraine as it contains important provisions for advancing gender equality and equips state parties with the tools to promote the full realization of women’s human rights, including developing gender-sensitive national programs for the intergration of Roma.
