UN Women supports Member States in setting norms. We conduct research, and compile and provide evidence, including good practices and lessons learned, to inform intergovernmental debates and decisions. We also assist in implementing norms and standards through our country programmes. In addition, UN Women leads and coordinates the UN system’s work in support of gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The UN Women Multi-Country Office in Kazakhstan (Central Asia) supports Central Asian governments and civil society organisations to implement the norms and standards enshrined in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and in reporting on their progress.

It also assists their engagement in the Commission on the Status of Women and helps Central Asian countries implement the gender-specific recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review at the UN Human Rights Council.

UN Women supports regional dialogue on the Beijing+20 (the Beijing Platform for Action) review so states and civil societies can take stock of achievements and challenges. UN Women has started working with countries in the region on the implementation of plans toward achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
