The awareness-raising campaign "Women are mainstay for families and the state" was held in Kazakhstan in May 2013 under the auspices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 218 police officers, as well as representatives of education and health care system, members of the Interdepartmental Commission for Women, Family and Demographic Policy, crisis centers and student volunteers took part in the campaign.

Within the framework of the campaign information leaflets and booklets were distributed in public places of the city of Almaty. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, over 30 women claimed domestic violence cases for the period of the campaign. 10 women of the claimants had been referred to the crisis centers.

To ensure their safety restraining orders had been issued towards the perpetrators of domestic violence; the perpetrators are under preventive control. Two perpetrators had been inflicted an administrative and custodial sanction up to 10 days of arrest.

Such campaigns serve as an example of effective cooperation between the executive authorities and the civil society in raising public awareness about domestic violence prevention.
