UN Women held the preparatory meeting with members of newly established Civil Society Advisory Board

Dushanbe, 25th May 2012— The National Civil Society Advisory Board to UN Women Tajikistan is being established and at its preparatory meeting the board members discussed procedures and priorities for its further work. The Advisory Board to UN Women will facilitate regular consultations and dialogue between civil society and UN Women. The board consists of 11 members representing civil society organizations working in the area of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Tajikistan. All members of the board bring diverse experience and expertise gained during many years of work in gender and women’s rights issues.
The board members plan to start the consultation work with UN Women and further cooperate with other UN agencies to strengthen the partnerships with civil society organizations, Government and donors.
By mutual consent the board members agreed to elect the chairperson and discuss the preliminary Action Plan on priority areas for UN Women at the first official meeting of the Advisory Board. All members expressed great willingness to serve for UN Women and gender equality and empowerment of women in Tajikistan.

Based on its mandate the Advisory Board will work in two directions for UN Women Tajikistan:
• To consult UN Women on its programming directions at the country level based on priorities stated in the Global UN Women Strategic Plan for the period of 2011-2013.
• To create a platform for dialogue on how to work with donor communities and advise on overall policy relating to the UN Women’s mission, goals and programs and serve occasionally as resource for UN Women staff to call upon for information, referrals, networking and suggestions.
