#WikiGap edit-a-thon in Skopje
Event description
The Swedish Embassy in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, in collaboration with UN Women Skopje office, is organising teh initiative #WikiGap. Starting from this year’s 8th March, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Wikimedia took a joint global action to help make the internet more gender equal. In that respect, edit-a-thons aimed at increasing the number of women on Wikipedia are being organized in countries around the world. Wikipedia is the world’s largest online and user-generated encyclopedia, with great influence. However, there is a great imbalance on the website, since 90% of the content is created by men and there are 4 times more articles about man then women. #WikiGap initiative is born to bridge these differences and gender inequalities that persist in the online world. The idea is that the participants/volunteers to create new texts or translate texts in Macedonian about women (or events related to GE) who had made a significant change in the socielty in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
